Wander + Wonder Women: Celebrating Female Explorers, Adventurers and Changemakers Past and Present

  • Denver Public Library - Floor 5, Western Geography and Genealogy (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

In this unique exhibit, local world map artist, Charlotte Bassin, uses her research into the lives of more than a dozen women who were/are ahead of their time in the realms of exploration, science, activism and art to create a series of maps. On their journeys some of these women set out to break records, others to educate and to make discoveries; all of them succeeded in breaking boundaries, finding freedom and making positive change in the world. Each artistic world map is a celebration of an individual’s story, inspiring viewers to get out there, see the world, tell their own story and make change while doing it.

mardi-gras_email_graphic.jpg

All the artists at 40 West Studios will be opening their doors to the public. There will be food, drink, costumes and art! ALSO... I have maps showing in three of the art galleries in the district so you can go on a little scavenger hunt (they're all within walking distance of the studio) — see orange stars in map above.

40 West Arts, a state-certified creative district located along historic West Colfax Avenue in Northeast Lakewood, CO invites the public to a New Orleans style street party on First Friday March 6, 2020 from 6-9p!

This colorful event marks the first Colfax Art Crawl of 2020 hosted by the district and will feature a live brass band.

THERE WILL ALSO BE:
- a troupe of wandering musicians roaming the district
- live artist demos stationed throughout the district
- palm readers
- face painters
- Mardi Gras beads (of course)
- 2 NOLA inspired food trucks

We encourage attendees to wear their own necklaces, masks, feathers and more to add to the vibe!

COME BY! Check out 40 West Arts’ many creative businesses, galleries, studio spaces and showrooms will be open to the public with exhibitions on display and artwork for sale.

40 West Arts looks forward to this opportunity to showcase the district and open up a fun, creative, family-friendly environment for everyone to enjoy.

'Elements' Exhibit at 40 West Gallery Opening Reception

Classical elements typically refer to the states of matter: earth (solid), water (liquid), air (gas), fire (plasma) and aether (upper sky). Elements are the simplest form of existence, of everything in existence.

This juried art show exhibits work that ties into the elements, directly or metaphysically. Come see the debut of my newest, and edgiest, artistic world map, Life Force, created with my blood mixed with resin!

Exhibit runs through November 23.

The Watering Hole: TatZOO at Denver Zoo

I have been invited as a guest artist/photographer to this fun event at Denver Zoo. I’ll be there to photograph willing participants with plant and animal tattoos who want their body art to be featured in a Wander + Wonder World Map. In preparation for the event, I created this animal tattoo map to be used as an example of what the final artwork might look like.

If you or a friend have tattoos that you want featured in my artwork, come to the event… or even if you don’t, come have a good time!

World ART DROP Day

artdrop_w_hashtag_1500x452.png

I participated in this last year and it was so much fun that I’m doing it again. Last year I gave away two world maps (hidden around Denver) - this year I’m giving away a lot more and I’m doing it closer to home. I’ll be hiding a bunch of my artistic world maps in and around Golden along with local artists from Foothills Art Center Open Studio.

Check my Wander + Wonder World Maps FB page and/or the Art Drop Denver FB page all day long for clues on where to find them and other amazing artists’ free art!

Art Drop Day is the brain-child of Jake Parker of Provo, UT.

The world needs this right now. We need to feel a little more connection to each other and there's nothing like the bond two random strangers can make through the act of creating and giving.” - Jake Parker
